PORTLAND, Maine — Prosecutors in a Portland murder trial say the gun used to kill the 24-year-old victim has been linked to another fatal shooting.
Assistant Attorney General Lisa Marchese told a judge Tuesday that the .45-caliber pistol used to kill Serge Mulongo last year was the same one an intruder used to shoot 25-year-old Darien Richardson in her Portland apartment in January 2010.
She later died of a blood clot caused by the shooting. The case is unsolved.
Under questioning, Daudoit Butsitsi — who is on trial for killing Mulongo — said he got the gun from a friend the day he shot Mulongo. But he refused to identify the friend.
Butsitsi testified Tuesday that he shot Mulongo in self-defense. Closing arguments were expected Wednesday.
