ST. AGATHA, Maine — A Cross Lake man was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol after his car ended up submerged in Long Lake about 2:15 a.m. Saturday.
Maine State Police were called at about 4 a.m. to investigate the accident, which occurred on Causeway Island Road in St. Agatha. Police said in a press release that a 2005 Dodge Neon operated by19-year-old Peter Smith was traveling east on the Causeway Island Road that connects the island to the mainland in St. Agatha. Smith’s vehicle left the road and entered Long Lake on the south side of the causeway.
Smith escaped from the car without injury as it submerged in about 20 feet of water, police said.
The vehicle received extensive water damage, and was retrieved from the lake, police said.
The primary investigator is Trooper Dan Marquis.
