DETROIT – Gary Kitchin, 62, died Saturday, July 23, 2011. Gary was born April 27, 1949, in Hartland, son of Esmond and Barbara (Wyman) Kitchin.

He was a 1967 graduate of Maine Central Institute and proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He retired as a chief petty officer after 20 years of service. His most recent employment was at Bud’s Shop ‘n Save, where he worked as a dairy manager for 24 years. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating and dancing. He was a fan of NASCAR and country music. His favorite artist was Willie Nelson and his truck radio was tuned in to Willie’s Place on XM Radio. He liked telling jokes and drinking coffee with his friends at Tim Horton’s. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, Detroit Fire Department, American Legion Hartland Post No. 141, Night Drifters Snow Mobile Club and Detroit Memorial Monument Committee, and was a past member of Sebasticook Valley Elks Lodge No. 2713, Pittsfield.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Lovina Kitchin of Detroit; his three children, Timothy Newman and his wife, Elizabeth, of Fredericksburg, Va., Sharon Newman of Casselberry, Fla., and Barbara Kitchin of Bangor; his two grandchildren, Meredith and Jack; his parents, Esmond and Barbara Kitchin of Detroit; his five siblings, Stanley Kitchin Sr. and his wife, Linda, of Pittsfield, Lawrence Kitchin of Florida, Van Kitchin and his wife, Sharon, of St. Albans, Randy Kitchin of Detroit, and Pam Robbins and her husband, Michael, of Palmyra; his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Gulliford of Massachusetts, Jeanene Verrill and her husband, George, of Windham, Sylvia Hagadon of Perry, Eleanor Foss of Machiasport, Sandra Matthews of Lubec, Ernestine Atwood and her husband, Edwin, of Cutler and Eunice Woods and her husband, Donald, of New York; a brother-in-law, Phillip Farmer and his wife, Roberta, of Freeport; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Eric and Allen; and a brother-in-law, Quintin Farmer.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, where a memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, July 28, with Mike Robbins officiating. A committal service will be afterward at Detroit Village Cemetery, Route 220, Detroit, with full military honors being presented for his service to our country. All are invited to a gathering immediately after the committal service at Night Drifters Snowmobile Club, Detroit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gary B.
