HERMON – James R. Walker, 61, died Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at his home. He was born Sept. 16, 1949, in Orrington, son of Albert and Alice (Snyder) Walker.
Jim grew up in Hermon and attended local schools. After school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a proud Vietnam veteran. He spent more than 25 years as a truck driver and was a racing enthusiast, racing at Speedway 95. Jim enjoyed working on and restoring his old willys. He loved a good joke, all his grandchildren, and his dog, Frasier. Jim was a member of Norman N. Dow Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1761 and Disabled American Veterans, and was a strong supporter of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Horton; son, James Walker II of Pennsylvania; daughters, Nicole Medina and her husband, Froi, of the Philippines, Rebekah Cargill of Hermon, and Rachel Walker of Virginia; brothers, Fred Walker and his wife, Debi, of Bucksport, Albert Walker Jr. of Tennessee, and Ira Walker and his companion, M.T., of Hermon; grandchildren, Chloe, Kaleb, Malachi, Jacob, Olivia, Kathryn, Cody, Kyle and Josie; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Erick Hamlin.
Friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 29, at Snow’s Corner Cemetery, Hermon, with the Rev. Garnett Chute, pastor of Hermon Baptist Church, officiating.
