MILLINOCKET and NEWTON, Kan. – Mark Steven Knopf died suddenly July 30, 2011. He was born Oct. 10, 1953, in Davenport, Iowa, to Walter and Mary Knopf.

Mark moved to Newton, Kan., when young and retired from that city as a street sweeper. He loved Alcoholics Anonymous and worked tireless hours to support that organization. He was a magnificent drummer and loved music. He worked with young people to show them that being in a band could be done without drugs or alcohol.

He is survived by his wife, Diana; his son, Walter of Newton, Kan.; and his brother, Michael of Australia.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Aug. 4 at Millinocket Memorial Cemetery with a gathering afterward at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 40 Highland Ave., Millinocket. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted to help defray funeral costs. Envelopes will be available at the church or may be sent to Lamson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 618, Millinocket, ME 04462.
