HOLDEN – Rosalie “Lee” Doris Houp passed peacefully with her six surviving children Monday, Aug. 1, 2011.

Rosalie was predeceased by her loving husband of 37 years, Donald F. Houp Sr., U.S. Navy Reserve; her daughter, Gail L. Melita; a son, Timothy Clayton Houp; her mother and father, Doris and George Grant; and a brother, Clayton Grant. Rosalie is survived by her six children, Donald F. Houp Jr. and his wife, Phyllis, of Newburgh, Cheryl L. Wilson and her husband, Daniel, of Holden, Scott N. Houp and his wife, Lois A., of Erlanger, Ky., Janice L. Seastead and her husband, Erik, of Mount Vernon, Richard K. Houp and his wife, Susan, of Brewer, and Robert G. Houp and his wife, Buffy, of Gorham; her son-in-law, Michael J. Melita of Topsham; 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and one nephew. She is also survived by her loving significant other, Phil Piper of Bethel, Ohio, who she spent many years with as a wonderful companion.

Rosalie was a member of North Brewer-Eddington United Methodist Church, Altrusa Club, and a board member of Treats Falls House, Orono. She was also active in Cornelia deLange Syndrome Foundation – CDLS, and enjoyed her time as a Circle member at her church. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, knitting and traveling. Rosalie spent a few years living at the Ellen M. Leach Home, Brewer, and loved her time spent with her close friends and family there. She retired as a receptionist at Brookings-Smith Funeral Homes, where she worked for many years. The family thanks the staff of Westgate Manor for their professional and loving care to our mom and the family during this time of need.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at Brookings-Smith, Brewer Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where a memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, with the Rev. Dr. Tracy Reeves, pastor of North Brewer-Eddington United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be at North Brewer Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to meet in Rosalie’s memory at the home of Richard and Susan Houp, 17 Lynn Ave., Brewer, after the interment at North Brewer Cemetery.
