CARTHAGE, Maine — A man known to police for lying in roadways was hit and killed Wednesday morning by a pickup truck, Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland said Wednesday.
The fatal crash took place on Route 142 at about 5 a.m.
“Troopers said 44-year-old Bert Knox was killed instantly,” McCausland said. “Knox was believed to have been intoxicated and had a history of lying in the roadway.”
Troopers and the deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, which was a short distance from Knox’s home.
Kim Micks, 38, of Peru was driving a 2005 Chevrolet pickup down the roadway and told investigators he could not avoid striking what he thought was a dead animal in the road, according to McCausland. Micks was not injured in the collision and no charges are pending, McCausland said.
