SOLDIER POND – Willis R. Stadig, 81, died peacefully Aug. 2, 2011, surrounded by his family at a Fort Kent health care facility. He was born Feb. 21, 1930, in Wallagrass, the son of Walter and Bertha (Saucier) Stadig.
Willis served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a member of Marine Corps League Chapter No.1151. He was also a member of American Legion Martin-Klein Post No. 0133 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Lozier O’Grady Post No. 9609. Willis worked for Bangor & Aroostook Railroad for 44 years until retiring in 1988. Willis was an all around outdoorsman. His passions included camping, hunting, fishing and traveling. Willis was happiest when surrounded by his family. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Cecillia (Deprey) Stadig of Soldier Pond; three daughters, Vicki and her husband, Maurice Lizotte, of Fort Kent, Sandra and her husband, John Stewart, of Fairlee, Vt., and Sydney and her husband, Danny Paul, of Rogers City, Mich.; three sons, Gary and his wife, Gail Stadig, of Chugiak, Alaska, Dale and his wife, Suzanne Stadig, of Davidsonville, Md., and Wendall and his wife, Linda Stadig, of Levant; 13 grandchildren, Lief and Melissa Lizotte, Chad and Allison Stadig, Brook and Adam Stewart, Katie, Ryan and Sean Stadig, Danny and Erika Paul, Lily and Alisha Stadig; two great-grandchildren, Amelia Paul and Felicity Stadig; and one sister, Rita Stadig of Houlton. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Bennett and Kermit Stadig.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday and 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Wallagrass. Committal services with full military honors will be after at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Wallagrass.
