PORTLAND, Maine — A Maine man facing 25-years-to-life in prison in the shooting death of his Portland roommate is seeking a new trial.

Twenty-five-year-old Daudoit Butsitsi claims the jury that convicted him last month may have been tainted because jurors may have seen a newspaper article about the case.

Butsitsi was convicted by a jury last month.

A court motion filed by Butsitsi’s lawyer says the article, about how the gun used to kill 24-year-old Serge Mulongo on Feb. 10, 2010, was used in another crime, was widely available to jurors.

The Portland Press Herald said Butsitsi’s court-appointed attorney, Anthony Sineni, wants to interview jurors to determine whether there is a need for a new trial.
