BUCKSPORT – Austin G. O’Donnell, 81, died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011, in Bangor. He was born Dec. 31, 1929, in Bucksport, the son of Charles W. and Beatrice (French) O’Donnell.
He was an Army veteran who served in the Korean War. He delivered meals to senior citizens for more than 20 years, was a member of Arbutus Grange No. 450, Surry, most recently serving as master, was a member of Hancock-Pomona Grange No. 13, where he and his wife received numerous awards, he was president of Duck Cove Community Club and was a member of East Bucksport Methodist Church. Austin retired from St. Regis Paper Mill in 1990 after 40 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pauline (Anderson) O’Donnell; two daughters, Suzette O’Donnell and fiance, Christopher Tapley, of Bucksport and Lynette Carter and husband, Larry, of Casco; grandchildren, Alan Carter, Denise Noone and husband, Mike, Jan Carter and Dave Carter; three great-grandchildren, Rebecca Noone, Kaitlin Lane and Kayla Rose Bergen; two sisters, Margaret Gray and Eva Allen and her husband, Vincent; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Austin was predeceased by his parents; one son, Anthony O’Donnell, in 1961; one granddaughter, Laurie Carter Bergen, in 2009; and one brother, Howard O’Donnell, in 1991.
Visitation for family and friends will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Robert Blake officiating. A committal service will be at Hillside Cemetery, Bucksport. After the service there will be a reception at Duck Cove Community Center, Route 46, Bucksport.
