ARGYLE – Herbert R. Dow, 96, husband of the late Martha (Batchelder) Dow, passed away Aug. 4, 2011, at a Howland health care facility. He was born Jan. 25, 1915, in Old Town, the son of Frank and Maude (Mason) Dow.

Herbert worked for Pratt & Whitney as a machinist for 19 years, and later as a custodian at the University of Maine, Orono, for seven years. For the past 14 years, he spent the winter in Houston, returning to Maine for the summer.

He is survived by his children, Sharon and her husband, John L. O’Neal, of Caribou, Christine and her husband, Bruce Bolstridge, of Houston and Michael Dow and his wife, Penny, of Argyle; six grandchildren, Russell, Roger and John J. O’Neal, Steven Bolstridge, Debra Wells and Michael Dow; four great-grandchildren, Jetaime and Baylynn O’Neal, and Shannon and Amanda McDonald; a sister, Inez and her husband, Linwood Hayden, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Howland Baptist Church with the Rev. Alan Porter officiating. Interment will be at Hoyt Cemetery, Argyle.
