HEBRON, Maine — Next summer the real Olympics, with track and field and other events, will be held in London, England. This weekend, the Redneck Olympics, with unorthodox events such as wife-carrying and beer-swilling, will be held in Hebron, Maine.
Redneck Olympic events include bobbing for pigs’ feet, toilet-seat horseshoes, lawn mower races, a mud run and pie-eating contest. Organizer Harold Brooks cleared out space for campers on his cattle farm.
Brooks says there will be pig-roasting, beer-drinking and loud music courtesy of a 30,000-watt sound system. He told the Sun Journal that he appeased neighbors by giving them free tickets.
