MILLINOCKET – Thomas W. St. John, 83, died peacefully Aug. 6, 2011, at Penobscot Valley Hospital. He was born June 5, 1928, in Millinocket, the son of Stanley E. and Hazel (Griffin) St. John.
Tom was a 1946 graduate of Stearns High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a master machinist at Great Northern Paper Co., retiring in 1987. Tom was a faithful communicant of St. Martins of Tours Catholic Church, Millinocket. An avid outdoorsman and a lifetime member of Hillcrest Golf Club, Tom enjoyed skiing at Mount Jefferson and Sugarloaf/ USA, wood carving and tinkering in his home machine shop. He was especially fond of spending time at the family camp on Ambajejus Lake.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia “Kitty” St. John of Millinocket; two sons, Stanley St. John and his wife, Jane, and Brian St. John, both of Millinocket; two daughters, Denise Breed and her husband, Jeffrey, of Washington, D.C., and Katherine Ward of Millinocket; three grandchildren, Jonathan Breed of San Diego, Michael Breed of Boston and Ryan T. McGoldrick Ward of Carrabassett Valley. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Paul St. John; and his sister, Mary Jean Waite.
Friends are welcome to call 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where services will begin 10:30 a.m. with an interment afterward at Millinocket Cemetery.
