BRUNSWICK – Elizabeth Arletta Rockhold, 94, died July 22, 2011, of natural causes, in Brunswick. She was born to Peter Christian and Elizabeth Giese of Davenport, Iowa, and had a brother, Jack Wilbur.
She was valedictorian of her 1934 high school class. She married Wesley Rockhold in 1943 and had two children, Elizabeth Andrea Pomroy, who predeceased her, and Frank Wesley Rockhold of Morrisville, N.C. Arletta raised her children in Chicago and Cos Cob, Conn. She and Wesley worked together in their research business in Queens, N.Y. Arletta was active in her church and lived her faith. She was an active Rotarian and volunteer for Meals on Wheels and her church thrift shop. She was also a benefactor of Red Bird Mission. Elizabeth enjoyed traveling throughout her life and ventured to India, China, Russia, Australia, Japan, Egypt, Israel, France, England, Mexico and the Caribbean. Arletta also traveled extensively throughout the United States. Her gourmet cooking was legendary and Arletta was known to pair a fine wine with her meals. Most recently, she was known by her neighbors to have incredible accuracy at bocce despite her vision impairment. Her family and friends remark that Arletta was always up to date on world and local events and the activities of those she loved.
Arletta is survived by her grandson, Shawn Ross Pomroy and his wife, Patty, and their children, Nicholas and Elvis, of Bowdoin; and her granddaughter, Katie Denise Rockhold of Washington, D.C.
Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, Belfast, is managing preparation and Arletta will be interred with her husband at Oakridge Cemetery, Chicago. A small memorial was held July 24.
