BAILEYVILLE – William Arthur “Bill” Niles, 56, passed away Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, with his loving family by his side at his home. Bill was born April 26, 1955, in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, son of William and Janet (Wheelock) Niles.
He attended Woodland High School, Baileyville, but left school early to help take care of his siblings. Bill held various jobs, including working at the O.S.B. Plant, Baileyville; DiCenzo’s, driving truck; the stud mill; and most recently was a shift supervisor for Fulghum Fibres, Baileyville. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, four-wheeling, gardening, woodworking, fixing things and helping others.
Bill was predeceased by his father, William Niles. Surviving are his loving wife, Laurie Niles; three children, Jessica Niles, Tabitha Smith and her husband, Jeff, and Katlyn Niles, all of Baileyville; his mother, Janet Niles and her companion, John Haley, of Alexander; six grandchildren, Jacob Sibley, Elijah Niles-Cowell, Ariana Niles-Cowell, and Halie, Jaydn and Riley Smith; his sister, Deb Demmons and her husband, Joe, of Meddybemps; four brothers, Kenny Niles and his wife, Lois, of Calais, Dana Niles and his wife, Betty Lou, of Alexander, Mike Niles and his wife, Justina, of Alexander and David Niles of Baring; a sister-in-law, Sue Howland of Calais; many nieces and nephews; special friend, Jody Dyer; his “crew” at Fulghum Fibres; and his feline companion, Rascal.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. Burial will afterward at Woodland Cemetery, Baileyville. A gathering of friends and family will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at his home, 10 Berry Lane, Baileyville. Condolences and memories may be shared at
