NEWPORT, Maine — A Newport man with no criminal history was arrested Sunday night for assaulting a female relative, police said Monday.

Kerry Wilber, 48, was charged with domestic assault after he reportedly assaulted the woman at their Shaw Street home, Newport police Lt. Randy Wing said.

No weapons were involved, and Officers Kenny Williams and David Wintle took Wilber into custody without incident, Wing said.

Wilber was transported to the Penobscot County Jail, where he was later freed on bail, Wing said. The woman did not require medical attention.
