ABBOT – Adolph W. Smith, 78, husband of Barbara (O’Connell) Smith, died Aug. 13, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 28, 1932, in Abbot, son of Percival and Ella (McLaughlin) Smith.
A U.S. Army veteran, Adolph was a member of D.J. Babineau Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3385, Dover-Foxcroft. He had been employed by the water department for the city of Bristol, Conn., for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, bow hunting and fishing. He especially loved spending time at his camp in Barnard.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Abbot; three sons, Gary of Plainville, Conn., Randy of Terryville, Conn., and Adolph of Conn.; three daughters, Darleen Carnien of Terryville, Conn., Debby Smith of Bristol, Conn., and Hope Keene of Greenville; a brother, Ralph of Bristol, Conn.; a sister, Louise Hunt of Niantic, Conn.; a sister-in-law, Lois Hardy of Enfield, Conn.; 19 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Adolph’s family is extremely grateful for the loving care extended by Community Health and Counseling Hospice during his last days.
Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, where funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, with Pastor Gail Januskiewicz officiating.
