PRESQUE ISLE – Rowena J. Proulx, 91, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at a Presque Isle health care facility. She was born Nov. 2, 1919, in Ashland, daughter of Merle and Medie (Raymond) Page.

Rowena was united in marriage to Perley Duprey for 39 years and of this union were three sons, Roland, Robert and Richard. She worked many years for W.T. Grant Co. from 1954-1976 and then for Zayre’s from 1976-1978. Rowena was a life member of State Street Baptist Church of Presque Isle, and enjoyed the devotion and fellowship of her church family. She was also involved in Alethenai Missionary Fellowship.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three husbands, Perley Duprey, in 1977, Wallace Higgins, in 1987, and Patrick Proulx, in 2007; three brothers, Arnold, Herman and Reginald Page; one son, Richard Duprey, in 1991; and a special cousin, Milton “Tim” Murray. Rowena is survived by her two sons, Roland Duprey and his wife, Judy, of Caribou, and Robert and his wife, Anita, of Presque Isle; daughter-in-law, Julianna Palmer of Presque Isle; eight grandchildren, Michelle Duprey of Holden, Kelly Sells of Ohio, Laurie Espling of New Sweden, Lisa Woods of Houlton, Janel Holmes of Exeter, N.H., Matthey Duprey of Casco, Andrew Duprey of Portage Lake and Daniel Duprey of Presque Isle; and 11 great-grandchildren, Kristen and Kelsie Espling, Cody and Robert Woods, Hillary and Bryant Holmes, Noah and Evan Duprey, Benjamin and Alexander Duprey, and Abigail Sells. She also leaves behind a cousin, Floyd Carter and his wife, Harriet, of Bath; stepdaughter, Michelle Proulx Schaller; and a special friend, Yvonne Anderson. “Gram” as Rowena was affectionately called by her family, will be remembered as a loving and kind woman with a beautiful smile loved by all. The family of Rowena Proulx wishes to express sincere gratitude to the caring staff of Leisure Village and to Eldercare nurses, Earla and Autumn.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rowena’s life 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, where friends may call 10 a.m. until time of service.
