NEWPORT – Carmeletta J. Crommett, “Carmie,” 74, a native of Clinton, entered into eternal life Aug. 17, 2011, at a local hospital. She was born Feb. 19, 1937, at Seton Hospital, Waterville, the daughter of John Humphrey and Charlottie (Brace) Crommett of Clinton.
She was educated in the Clinton school system. She started out at 10 years old babysitting her niece, Doreen, for $5 a day. She also worked at a local diner in Clinton. The next 40 years were spent with the father of her children, Herbert Bean Jr. of Plymouth, working alongside him on the chicken farm. Carmie spent 12 years working as a deli/bakery associate at Shop ‘n Save, Pittsfield, alongside her daughter, Maria, and then retired. The last 14 years were spent at her residence in Newport enjoying visits from family, friends, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and especially a great-niece, Ashli (Farrington) Hussey and her son, Jackson, of Winslow. Carmie enjoyed making trips to southern California to her niece’s residence, where she was able to be present at the time of the adoption of her first granddaughter, Therese Marie. Her Pomeranian dog, Teddy, had been giving her love and companionship for the last three years.
