BEALS – Esten Lesley Beal Jr., 88, died Aug. 21, 2011, at Marshall Nursing Home, Machias. He was born June 18, 1923, in Jonesport, son of the late Esten Sr. and Calista (Alley) Beal.
He was a hard worker from an early age. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942 to fight for his country in World War II. After the war, he returned home and started his living on the ocean with various occupations and served several positions with the town.
He is survived by his “Earthly Angel,” Patricia R. Beal of Beals; a daughter, Abby Lynn and husband, Matthew Andrews; grandchildren, Blake and Madison Andrews, all of Maysville, Iowa; a brother, Elmer and wife, Marion Beal; in-laws, Clifford and Ethelyn Alley, all of Beals; many nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and their families. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Myrtle and husband, Farrell Lenfesty, Fannie and husband, Ellis Bishop, and Susie and husband, Leon Johnson; and a brother, Charles and wife, Leila Beal. Special thanks to all the staff and residents at Marshall’s for being Esten’s family and friends. He loved you all. A few of his very special people in his life: Travis Alley “his buddy,” Trudy Stotz, Jessy Stanhope, and all “his beauties” too many to name; and a wonderful friend that stood by him, Wilfred Lenfesty of Beals. Special thanks to my sister, Sherry Scott, for being by my side in his final days.
At Esten’s request there will be no visiting hours and burial will be held at a later date at Beal Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Machias and Lubec.
