MILLINOCKET – John William Maragus, 84, passed away Aug. 29, 2011, at his home. He was born June 3, 1927, in Millinocket, the son of William and Annie Maragus.

He was a graduate of Stearns High School, served two years in the U.S. Army and worked 43 years for Great Northern Paper Co., retiring as a machinist in 1986. John enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing, spending time at his camp at South Twin Lake and especially cutting fire wood with his brother, Bob.

John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary (Daisey) Maragus; two daughters, Janet Maragus of Norwood, Mass., and Elizabeth Veneziano and her husband, John, of San Diego; two grandsons, Peter and Mark Veneziano, who were a highlight of his life; many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Marilyn Freeman of Millinocket; a sister-in-law, Alyce Maragus of Millinocket; and a brother-in-law, Paul Yuska of New Hampshire. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by a brother, Stanley “Bob” Maragus; and sisters, Ann Yuska, Susan Neal, Vincie Morgan and Phyllis Yuska.
