PLEASANT POINT, Maine — Due to excessive runoff from Hurricane Irene’s rains into the Passamaquoddy Water District’s sources, the company has enacted a boil water order.

This means that all water used for human consumption should be boiled before it is used. The Passamaquoddy Water District has about 750 customers in the Pleasant Point, Perry and Eastport area.

Nancy Seeley of the water district said the order is precautionary only and will be in effect at least through the weekend. “We have our engineers working on it now,” she said.

Seeley said Boyden Lake is the district’s water source and the lake and Boyden Stream are full of runoff from nearby bogs.

“We don’t know what is in that water right now,” Seeley said.
