CARIBOU – Gladys E. Staples, 92, wife of the late Woodrow Staples, died Sept. 1, 2011. She was born July 8, 1919, in Washburn, daughter of the late Vaughn and Laura (Plissey) Scott.

Gladys was employed as a cook by the Caribou school department, as well as Cary Medical Center for a number of years. She was an active member of Caribou United Baptist Church where she was a member of the Mission Circle, Golden Years Club and Adult Fellowship, and served as a church deaconess for many years. Mrs. Staples also spent many hours volunteering at Cary Medical Center.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, June and Harry Ward of Arkansas, and Susan and Guy Thibodeau of Caribou; two sisters, Charlene Willette of Manchester, Conn., and Harriet Arculeo of Windham; a son-in-law, Nelson Parkinson of West Virginia; six grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Staples was predeceased by her husband, Woodrow, in 1983; a daughter, Donna Parkinson; a brother, Herbert Scott; and two sisters, Faye Brown and Vada Scott.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, with the Rev. John Kiehn officiating.
