HOULTON and SHIN POND – June Clark Eaton Hill, 87, died peacefully Aug. 26, 2011, surrounded by family at her Houlton home. She was born June 6, 1924, in Brookline, Mass., the daughter of Horace Mann and Laura (Clark) Eaton.
June attended Acadia University, Nova Scotia. She married Richard C. Hill April 19, 1947, in Milton, Mass. Dick and June owned and operated Hillbrook Hollow dairy farm in Bellingham, Mass., for 43 years and were very involved in the community. During those years she also served as a librarian at the old North School, Bellingham, Mass., and was a 50-year member and past president of Alden Club, and Franklin chapter of General Federation of Women’s Clubs. She was also a proud member of Shin Pond Coffee Babes. June cherished the summers spent at her “Northernaire” cottage on Shin Pond. Spending her earlier years playing bridge and cribbage, she became an avid Canasta player in her later years always playing by “Grammie’s rules!” She enjoyed knitting, sharing new recipes and most of all spending time with her family and friends. She was also an enthusiastic Patriots fan. Enjoying the games from her living room with her sons and grandchildren over pizza, she always loved sharing highlights of the game. She resided at Madigan Assisted Living Apartments for the past 12 years.
She is survived by four sons, Rick and his wife, Sara Hill, Leslie and his wife, Alma Hill, Craig and his wife, Terry Hill, all of Mount Chase, and Cary and his wife, Terri Hill, of Houlton; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and her siblings, Virginia and her husband, Millard Wright, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Horace and his wife, June Eaton, of Seattle and Shirley and her husband, the Rev. John Klindt, of Whitewater, Wis. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Richard C. “Dick” Hill. A very special and sincere thanks to the dedicated staff and personal caregivers she had during the last years.
