Bat talk

BRISTOL — Pemaquid Watershed Association evening of learning about the too often maligned bat 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at the Carpenter’s Boat Shop in Pemaquid. Jen Lewis, a bat specialist from Bat World Dirigo, will talk about bat basics, types of bats found in Maine, their benefits and what to do if you find an injured or orphaned bat. After the talk, Lewis will lead a nature hike at Crooked Farm Preserve (next to the Boat Shop) to look for bats in their natural environment.

The event is free and open to all ages. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Bring a flashlight and a sense of adventure. Register to attend by contacting PWA at pwalearn@pemauqidwatershed.org or 563-2196.

To reach the Boat Shop from Damariscotta, take the Bristol Road (Route 130) 9.9 miles and turn left on Old County Road at the Bristol Library. Travel about 1 mile until the road turns to dirt. Parking will be on the left. The event will be held on the third floor of the New Workshop Building.
