PORTLAND, Maine — Statistics show that traffic at the southern end of the Maine Turnpike increased by more than 5 percent over the Labor Day holiday weekend compared to last year.
The Maine Turnpike Authority was expecting traffic to drop 6 percent at the York toll plaza from Friday through Monday based on a forecast from the Maine Center for Business and Economic Research.
But turnpike officials said Tuesday that preliminary numbers show 228,700 vehicles went through the plaza, a 5.3 increase jump from last year.
