BAILEYVILLE – Carlton S. Prescott, 87, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at Calais Regional Hospital with his family by his side. Carlton was born April 1, 1924, in Biddeford, to George Prescott and Myrtle (Cochran) Hilchey.
He attended local schools in both Codyville and Princeton.
Carlton married Ruby Tracy, June 1, 1946, in Vanceboro; they enjoyed 54 years of marriage until her passing in 2000.
Carlton worked for 40 years as a clerk for Maine Central Railroad and then Canadian Pacific Railroad. Carlton enjoyed doing carpentry work; he built his own camp on Spednic Lake, where he spent countless hours fishing and camping with his grandsons. He was a coin collector and he loved to watch baseball, especially the Red Sox.
In addition to his parents, Carlton was predeceased by his wife, Ruby Prescott; a sister, Rita Burke; and two brothers, Manson Prescott and Lloyd Monk. Survivors include his daughter, Catherine McGaw and her husband, Elgin; two grandsons, Darin McGaw and his wife, Kathy, and Brett McGaw; two great-grandchildren, Alec and Laurel McGaw, all of Baileyville; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Woodland Cemetery, Baileyville. Services are in the care of Mays Funeral Home, Calais and Eastport. Condolences and memories may be shared at
