Big School (Classes A-B)
Dillon Smith
Smith, a junior running back and cornerback for the Brewer football team, rushed for 106 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Witches to a 44-36 victory over Old Town. Smith scored on runs of 15 and 28 yards and on a 38-yard pass from Chris Miller.
Small School (Classes C-D)
Deven Romain
Romain, a senior quarterback for the John Bapst of Bangor football team, completed 12 of 21 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns as the Crusaders defeated Mount View of Thorndike 35-16. Romain threw touchdown passes of 28, 5 and 28 yards to help John Bapst build a 35-0 lead.
GIRLS
Big Schools (Classes A-B)
Casey White
Brewer High School field hockey goalie Casey White had a memorable week. She made 29 saves in a 4-0 loss to defending state Class A champion Skowhegan; 22 more in a 2-0 victory over Hampden Academy and six in a 3-1 victory over Mount Ararat of Topsham. White has backstopped the Witches to a 4-1 start.
Small Schools (Classes C-D)
Maicee Gustin
Dexter High School’s field hockey goaltender posted back-to-back shutouts. She made five saves in a 2-0 victory over defending Eastern Maine Class C champ Foxcroft Academy and followed that with a 12-save performance in a 4-0 win over John Bapst High School of Bangor. Previously undefeated John Bapst had averaged 7.25 goals in its previous four games.
