WATERVILLE — Eric Barthold’s goal 3:52 into the second half broke a 1-1 tie and Andrew Woonton added an insurance goal with 19:04 remaining as Colby defeated Husson University of Bangor 3-1 in men’s soccer Wednesday.

Barthold ran on to a Jeremy Lachtrupp header off a Nick Aubin cross.

Greg Dawson opened the scoring for Husson off a Phil Frost assist, but Andrew Meisel equalized from the penalty spot.

Jon Stronach assisted on Woonton’s goal and Ben Joslin and Peter Quayle combined for four saves on eight shots for the Mules (1-1).

Mason Smith had six saves on 21 shots for 2-3-1 Husson.

EMCC 2, NMCC 0

At Bangor, Scott Hatch tallied a first-half goal and Junchul Byun scored after intermission to lead Eastern Maine Community College past Northern Maine Community College of Presque Isle.

Eric Peterson preserved the shutout in goal, stopping all 14 shots he faced.

Chad McCarthy stopped 13 of 16 shots for NMCC.

Bates 3, UM-Farmington 1

At Farmington, John Murphy scored a pair of second-half goals and Ethan Hirshberg also scored as Bates rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit. Tyler Grees had two assists and Brian Goldberg and Greg Watts combined for three saves for 1-1 Bates.

Jordan Hale scored for 2-1 UM-Farmington and Tennessee Peters finished with three saves.

Women’s soccer

Colby 2, U-New England 1

At Biddeford, Emily Anderson scored on a pass from Grace Dickinson midway through the second half to lift the Mules to victory.

Cami Notaro also scored for 2-0 Colby, while Katy Marshall scored for 4-1 UNE.

Emily Brook made five saves on 14 shots for Colby. Jessica Woodworth made five saves on 11 shots for UNE.

So. Maine 1, UMF 0 (2OT)

At Gorham, Tara Moore scored with 4:20 left in the second overtime to give the University of Southern Maine the win.

Kat Rothe made five saves on 10 shots for 2-3 USM. Beth Lebel made three saves on nine shots for the 1-1-1 University of Maine at Farmington.
