FRANKFORT – Ruth A. Stone, 87, went to be with the Lord, Sept. 17, 2011, surrounded by her family at Waldo County General Hospital. She was born Sept. 8, 1924, in Prospect, daughter of Walter and Bessie (Seekins) Littlefield.
Ruth was dedicated to her family and devoted to raising her children and grandchildren. She was active in the family chicken business. She played an integral role in the organization of West Frankfort Fire Department and had been an active member ever since. She was an active member of North Searsport Methodist Church. She touched many lives and will be remembered for her willingness to help anyone in need.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Irving Stone; son, Roy Stone and wife, Sandy; and daughters, Betty York and husband, Jim, and Ruth Ann Brown and special friend, Tuck. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Sherry Howard and special friend, Brian, Shawn Stone and wife, Valerie, Adrian Stone and wife, Rebecca, Shannon Robinson and fiance, Kevin, Damien Stone, Trish Parker and husband, Randy, Lisa Kelly and special friend, Kelly, Jim York Jr., and Jason Brown and wife, Debbie; 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great-granddaughter, many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sisters, Ida Mitchell, Clara Hendricks, and Mildred Baker and husband, Earl; and a brother, Walter Littlefield Jr. and wife, Judy. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Bessie Littlefield; siblings, Albert Littlefield, Earl Littlefield, Hershal Littlefield, Alice White and Lucretia Gamble.
A memorial service for Ruth will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at West Frankfort Fire Department, 291 Swanville Road, Frankfort, with Pastor Stephen MacLeod officiating. Family and friends may visit there 1 p.m. until time of service. Interment will be at Pilgrim’s Home Cemetery, Monroe. At the conclusion of the interment a reception will be held at the fire station. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to West Frankfort Fire Department, 291 Swanville Road, Frankfort, ME 04438.
