PANAMA CITY, Fla. – Chief Warrant Officer 4 J. Raymond Scammon went on to bigger things May 16, 2011. He was born Sept. 29, 1938, in Bar Harbor, to George and Florence Scammon.
He graduated from Higgins Classical Institute, attended the University of Maine, Orono, and graduated from Husson College. J. served 35 years in the Army National Guard, and was a flight instructor and scuba instructor. He was a medevac pilot for the 112th Medical Company in Bangor and flew rescues in Desert Storm.
He is survived by a brother, Victor; a sister, Lois; two daughters, Christy and Michelle; and two grandchildren, Aimee and James.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Sept. 29 at the new Veterans Cemetery, Augusta. Off exit 112, take a right at the light, take a left onto Stony Brook Road, and then take right on to Mount Vernon Road; proceed to Section H.
