HOLDEN, Maine — Police Officer Nicholas Fletcher struck up a conversation with a Dedham man on Saturday evening at a local convenience store and while talking with him noticed several weapons in his vehicle, police Chief Gene Worcester said on Monday.

“He noticed the firearms in plain view,” the chief said.

Fletcher ran Darrell McTigue’s criminal history and found that the 57-year-old was convicted of a felony when he was a teenager and therefore was barred from possessing guns.

McTigue was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon after police said they found four rifles, two handguns — a Ruger .22-caliber revolver and Ruger 9 mm — and 187 rounds of ammunition in his vehicle or during a subsequent search of his Deham residence.

“Four were found in the vehicle,” Worcester said.

Fletcher also allegedly found ammunition in magazines in McTigue’s vehicle. McTigue’s court date at the Penobscot Judicial Center is Nov. 17, the chief said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
