SCARBOROUGH, Maine — A Scarborough couple was taken to a local hospital Tuesday morning after an automobile accident at Burnham and Broad Turn roads.

According to a Press Herald report, Madeline Weyer, 21, of Hollis was traveling north on Burnham Road at 8:15 a.m. when a squirrel darted in front of her Ford Ranger. She peeked in her rearview mirror to see if she had hit the creature and didn’t see a stop sign at Broad Turn Road, according to police.

Her pickup collided with a Jeep Cherokee driven by Dana Doliber, 64, of Sanford, whose wife, Jean, 56, was a passenger. The force of the collision rolled the Jeep into a ditch.

The Dolibers were taken to a local hospital by ambulance, while Weyer didn’t require medical treatment.
