INDIAN ISLAND – Michael M. Bear, 67, died peacefully Sept. 29, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Aug. 15, 1944, in Old Town, a son of Clarence J. and Gloria P. (Ranco) Baer.

Mike enjoyed riding his four-wheeler with his ATV club, hunting and fishing, and visiting friends and family. He served as vice chief of Penobscot Indian Nation from 2000 to 2006. He attended St. Ann’s

Catholic Church.

He is survived by a son, Scott A. Baer and his wife, Christine, of Manchester, N.H.; a daughter, Kelly (Baer) Giovannani and her husband, Joseph, of Hudson, N.H.; two grandchildren, Kala and Ryan Baer; three brothers, Patrick Bear, Clark Baer and Michael Hutchinson; two sister, Karen Hunter and Donna Pellerin; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and three sisters Janice Baer, Becky Baer and Linda Baer Czzowitz.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Indian Island. Burial will be afterward at Tribal Cemetery.
