LIMINGTON – Alton H. Cousins passed away Sept. 29, 2011, at Barron Center, Portland, after a long illness of Alzheimer’s disease. He was born in Baileyville, son of Omar and Stella Cousins.

He was a graduate of South Portland High School, Class of 1951. He served in the Army as a tank mechanic. Alton was self-employed as a master plumber. He loved calling bingo at Redman’s Hall, South Portland. He was a member of Local No. 1 Fire Department of South Portland and enjoyed helping people. Things that Alton loved were dancing at Country Crossroads of Standish, having grandchildren around, and he enjoyed cooking on the grill for family and friends.

Alton was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Ann (Neault) Cousins. He is survived by their six children, Lu Ann Morrill of Gorham, Donald and Sandra (Tibbetts) Cousins of Meredith, N.H., Gail and Stephen Clement of Standish, Lee Cousins of Limington, Sandra Garland of Meredith, N.H., and Ruth and Edward Kenney of Meredith, N.H. He is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Hall of Brunswick; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough, with a memorial service beginning 2 p.m. Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Brooklawn Cemetery, Portland.
