MANCHESTER, Conn., and ASHLAND – Susan A. “Auntie” Chalou, 59, of Manchester, Conn., passed away suddenly and unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, Conn. She was born in Eagle Lake, the beloved daughter of the late Alphonse and Evangeline (Tardie) Chalou.

Susan was raised in Ashland and had lived in Manchester, Conn. for 41 years. She was employed by Southern New England Telephone for 30 years, retiring in 2000. Sue was presently employed by Shawmut Equipment of Manchester. Sue enjoyed reading, watching the University of Connecticut girls’ basketball team and spending time with family and friends.

Sue is survived by her sister, Donna Regan and her husband, Michael, of Ellington, Conn.; as well as her brothers and their spouses, Rodney Chalou and Sylvia of Masardis, Terry Chalou and Barbara of Easton, Neil Chalou of Ashland and Doug Chalou of Windsor, Conn. She will also be remembered by devoted dear friends, Patricia and Frank Berlinski and their children of South Windsor, Conn. She is also survived by her “buddy,” Joseph, who was like her own. Sue was a second mother to her nephew, Kevin Regan of Ellington, Conn.; and her niece, Kim Izzo and husband, Joe, of Coventry, Conn. She dearly loved her many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Sue was a devoted caregiver to her nephew, Michael Izzo, until his passing. The family expresses gratitude to Sue’s doctors and the fifth floor intensive care unit staff at St. Francis Hospital, especially Dr. Lahiri, Dr. Daoud, Dr. Jacob and Dr. Rockland, for their compassion and care during this most difficult time.

Relatives and friends may call 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at St. Mark Catholic Church, Ashland, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. with Father Aaron Damboise, celebrant.
