LUBEC – Virginia Rich Bliss was a caring mother, loving sister and devoted friend. Ginny died Sept. 22, 2011, surrounded by her children at her family’s home, after a short struggle with lung cancer.
Born and raised in Grosse Point, Mich., and the East Coast she raised her children in Wilton, Conn., and spent the remainder of her life in Lubec overlooking Channel Light off the Bay of Fundy. She devoted her life to raising her children and beyond that developing an eclectic career. She helped her father with his business in the Bahamas, was a hospital unit secretary in Florida, and taught kindergarten in Wilton, Conn. In Lubec she tutored in math for people working toward their GED, volunteered on the abuse hotline and was the secretary of the local library. Reaching 25 years of sobriety she helped many women through the same journey. She was known for her passion of gardening. She was clever and creative, which showed in her many projects, especially in her house. She was a lover of animals from horses as a child to cats, dogs, and just about any other animal throughout her life. The polar bear was her animal token. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzler and knitter. Her thoughtfulness and exuberance with her family and her friends will be missed.
She is survived by her children, Jackie Bliss, Richard Bliss, Steve Bliss and Laura Campfield; five grandchildren, Tucker, Clara, Charlie, Sam and Ella; and her brother, Michael Rich. She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Chase; and her parents, Herbert and Marjorie Rich.
A memorial will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at her house. In lieu of flowers, send donations to Whiting Community Food Pantry, 340 U.S. Route 1, Dennysville, ME 04628. You are invited to share your condolences, photos and memories with the family by visiting their Book of Memories at
