OXFORD, Maine — Supporters of a casino under construction in western Maine have formed a political action committee to oppose two statewide referendums seeking approval for a casino in Lewiston and racinos in eastern and southern Maine.
The Friends of the Oxford Casino is urging Mainers to oppose Questions 2 and 3 on the Nov. 8 ballot.
Spokesman Mark Ferguson said the Oxford casino is in danger of being cannibalized by other casinos if voters approve too many too fast. Voters last year approved a referendum calling for a casino with slot machines and table games in the town of Oxford.
Question 2 on the ballot asks voters if they want to approve harness racing tracks with slot machines in Biddeford and Washington County. Question 3 seeks approval for a casino in Lewiston.
