WATERBORO, Maine — A Massabesic High School special education teacher is facing two felony charges after allegedly having a sexual relationship with a former student and providing the 15-year-old with drugs.
Jessica Pomerleau, 36, of Limerick was charged with gross sexual assault and aggravated unlawful furnishing of scheduled drugs, Sgt. Jill Brooks of York County Jail said Tuesday night.
Pomerleau was booked into the jail earlier in the day and was released Tuesday evening on $10,000 cash bail, the jail officer said.
Officials believe the relationship took place during the last school year and possibly into the the summer, according to WLBZ2.com. Pomerleau has worked for RSU 57 for four years, with the last three as a special education teacher in the “Success Program.”
Pomerleau reportedly was transferred out of the classroom on Sept. 29 when the district first learned of the allegations.
School officials said they do not know for certain what happened, only what had been alleged, RSU 57 Interim Superintendent Dr. John Davis said in a press release.
“This is a very serious issue and we will work closely with law enforcement to determine all the facts and then make the appropriate decisions,” Davis said.
