DOVER-FOXCROFT and AUGUSTA – Benjamin Thornton Howard, 69, died Oct. 12, 2011, in Augusta. He was born May 22, 1942, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Kenneth T. and Helen (Melia) Howard.

A graduate of Foxcroft Academy, class of 1961, he also graduated from Northeastern University and Wentworth College. Ben was employed 39 years by Central Maine Power Co., Augusta, where he was affectionately known to his friends as “Ace.” He umpired softball games in the Augusta area for many years.

He will be sadly missed by his aunts, Beverly (Melia) Dow of Dover-Foxcroft and Barbara (Melia) Robinson of Guilford, and their extended families; several cousins and friends.

He will be remembered by a special friend, Jerry Clukey of Dover-Foxcroft and his family.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, in the family lot at Gray Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft, with the Rev. Kevin Hensley officiating. Friends and family are invited to share fellowship and stories after the service at Gerrish-Warren Center at Thayer Parkway, Dover-Foxcroft.
