ORONO, Maine — A lavender monkey, nicknamed “Nanners,” who has been hanging out on the banana display at the Circle K store on Main Street for years has been stolen from his perch, Orono police Capt. Josh Ewing said Monday.

“We have them on camera,” the police captain said of two males involved in the snatching of the purple stuffed animal just after midnight Saturday.

The thief is described as being in his 20s and having dark brown hair and a mustache. He had an average build and was with another friend, Ewing said.

“The second guy appears to have either been with the suspect, or knew him,” he said.

Police obtained images of the theft from the store’s video surveillance cameras Monday morning and released the images of the two men to the media. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
