WINTERPORT – William Norman Whittlesey II, 56, lost his 12-year battle with cancer Oct. 20, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. William was born Nov. 5, 1954, in New London, Conn., to William N. I and Ruth R. (Johnson) Whittlesey.

William grew up and attended schools in many states across the country before their military family settled in Maine. He worked for Milton Caterpillar, Brewer, as a certified heavy equipment mechanic. He enjoyed hunting, carpentry and gardening, but most of all spending time with his family, particularly holidays. William will be remembered, loved and missed by everyone who ever came in contact with him and as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

William is survived by the love of his life, his soul mate and best friend, Margaret A. Whittlesey; daughters, Nicole Davis and husband, Thomas, Brittany Whittlesey, all of Winterport, and Megan Christensen and husband, Peter, of Carmel; his son, Travis Whittlesey of Winterport; grandchildren, Ashley, Andrew, Liliana and Anna; a brother, Alan Whittlesey and wife, Lynn, of Newburgh; a sister, Kathy Lyford and husband, Kenny, of Frankfort; an aunt, Velma Rogers; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Many thanks to New Hope Hospice, CancerCare of Maine, and the many friends and family for their excellent care and support for William and his family during his illness.

A memorial service celebrating William’s life will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, with Pastor Steve Nute officiating. Family and friends are invited to visit noon until the time of service 2 p.m. Interment will be in the family lot at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport.
