PLYMOUTH – William Henry Bird Sr., 99, died Oct. 24, 2011, surrounded by his family in Bangor. He was born Aug. 28, 1912, in Castle Hill, a son of Louis E. and Mabel (Webber) Bird.
He was educated in Madison and Corinna schools. He worked at Corinna Woolen Mill and retired from dairy farming in the 1970s. He enjoyed watching sports and watching the grandchildren play. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and gardening, and especially loved watching the Red Sox and the Patriots. He was a past member of Corinna Grange and Dixmont Gold Crest Riders.
He is survived by his daughters, Sally Millett and Janet Godsoe, both of Newport; sisters, Kathleen “Jody” Leavitt of Skowhegan and Pauline “Polly” Jude of Orrington; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 52 years, Vornie E. (Bragdon) Bird; daughter, Betty A. Erskine; son, William H. Bird Jr.; brothers, Alton and John Bird; and sisters, Thelma Boon and Ruth E. Bird.
Friends and family may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, and 1-2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport, where funeral services will begin 2 p.m. with Pastor Robert Emrich officiating.
