MARS HILL – Charles “Roy” L. Peers, 64, died unexpectedly Oct. 22, 2011, at his home. He was born April 12, 1947, in Presque Isle, son of Charles and Elizabeth (Wilson) Peers.

Roy was a 1965 graduate of Aroostook Central Institute, Mars Hill. He had been employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a potato inspector for several years. Roy also had been employed by Nabisco and Coles Express as a long haul tractor trailer driver, and was recently employed by Richard Porter, Blaine. Roy shared his father’s love for American standard harness racehorses, and was known for his quick wit and good sense of humor. He spent many enjoyable hours at Charbet Farm, training and tending to the horses. Roy was a longtime member of U.S. Trotting Association.

In addition to his mother of Mars Hill, he is survived by a son, Tom Peers and his wife, Shannon, of Milford, Del.; two daughters, Lisa Grass and her husband, Neil, of Mars Hill, and Trisha Grant of Ellsworth; brothers, David R. Peers of Mars Hill, and Dale W. Peers and his wife, Mary, of Easton; grandchildren, Logan, Lane, Libby, Madison, MacKenzie, McKayla, Danielle and Alex; one great-grandson, several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Duncan Funeral Home, Mars Hill, with the Rev. Lawrence Beals officiating. Interment will be at Peers Cemetery, Caswell.
