JONESPORT – Dorothy Elizabeth Walker Tucker placed her hand in God’s and entered into heaven Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011. She was a resident at Marshall Health Care, Machias. She was 85. She was born Feb. 18, 1926, in Dixfield, daughter of the late Frank E. and Lovilla P. (Faulkingham) Walker.
Her early years were spent in Beals, where she attended school through the eighth grade. She graduated from Jonesport High School and was valedictorian of the class of 1943. She met the love of her life, Ronald B. Tucker, while working at R.H. Rogers store in Jonesport. They were married May 17, 1944, and were blessed with 60 years together. They raised three children. Dorothy went to work in 1960 for Daniel O. Hall when he opened his grocery store. Later Hall closed this store and became a Western Auto Store. Hall asked her to stay and be his clerk. Hall retired in 1974 and sold the business to Norman Dakin of Addison. She worked with Dakin for 19 years. She retired in 1993 with a combined 33 years of service with Hall and Dakin. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, now the Community of Christ Church, and was active in the choir, women’s department and later became the superintendent of the Sunday school. Known for her wonderful yeast breads, pies and sweets, she was always there to lend a hand when her church needed a fundraiser. Her faith in God was strong all through her life.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Brenda Dodge and her husband, Douglas, of Beals and Peggy Micue and her husband, Dwaine, of Oakland; three grandchildren, Douglas Dodge Jr. and his wife, Amy, of Roque Island, Kelly Dodge Corbett and her husband, Christian, of Woolwich and Kristi Micue Farrell of Sidney; five great-grandchildren, Michael, Kathryn and Samuel Corbett, all of Woolwich, and Kourtney and Kelsey Farrell of Sidney; a half brother, Leon Simmons and his wife, Phyllis, of Dunnellon, Fla.; a brother-in-law. Franklin C. Tucker of Milbridge; a sister-in-law, Madolyn Rogers Tucker of Addison; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Tucker of Brewer; four nieces and their families, Sharon Tucker Church of Jonesport, Rebecca Tucker Dobson of Washington, Sheryl Simmons Hoisington of New Hampshire and Linda Simmons Farwell of Windsor; aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald B. Tucker; a son, Franklin A. Tucker; a half sister, Louise Walker Kuechler; and two stepfathers, Ladd Simmons and Fletcher M. Alley. She has another half brother, Robert “Bobby” Walker, status unknown.
