BANGOR – Marion S. Knowlton, 89, died peacefully Nov. 1, 2011, with family by her side at a Bangor hospital. She was born Sept. 20, 1922, in Palmyra, the youngest of Elwin and Emma (Johnson) Savage’s nine children.

Marion graduated from Newport High School, enjoyed working for Sonny Miller at his family’s business, Miller’s Restaurant, and as a cook in the Bangor school system.

She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Charles Knowlton, in 1998; in addition to her brothers, John, Merlin, Addison and George; and sisters, Helen Dodge, Beryl Fitts, Catherine Morton and Erma Underhill. She is survived by five sons, Edward of Bangor, Richard of Costa Rica, John and his wife, Nora, of Bangor, David of Bangor, and Shane of Bangor; six grandchildren, Pamela, Danielle, Jessica, Ronald and his wife, Tiffany, Amber and Eric; three great-grandchildren, Crystal, Norra Lynn and Elijah William; and lifelong friend and neighbor, Vera Thibeau.

A service honoring Marion’s life will be held noon Friday, Nov. 4, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, where family and friends may visit 10 a.m. until the service begins. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Carmel. Condolences may be offered at
