AUBURN, Maine — Business and community leaders in the central Maine city of Auburn are voicing their support for a casino in neighboring Lewiston.
Business owners, politicians and others are speaking at a press conference Thursday in Auburn in support of Question 3 on the Nov. 8 ballot, which asks voters if they want to allow a casino with slot machines and table games in Lewiston.
Great Falls Recreation and Redevelopment LLC is proposing to spend more than $100 million to build the casino in a sprawling textile mill that has been idle for years.
Supporters say the project would create hundreds of construction jobs and hundreds more full-time jobs once it’s open.
