LEWISTON, Maine — The Lewiston newspaper is urging Maine voters to give all four ballot questions a thumbs-up.
An editorial in Sunday’s Sun Journal says decisions made on Tuesday’s ballot will dramatically affect the state’s economic and political future.
On Question 1, it says a yes vote preserves Election Day registration, a system that’s worked almost flawlessly for nearly 40 years and encourages voting.
It says the gaming questions, 2 and 3, are about jobs and economic development. Question 2 seeks racinos in Biddeford and near Calais, and Question 3 asks for approval of a Lewiston casino.
The Sun Journal says Question 4 is largely a housekeeping measure that aligns the redistricting of legislative, county commission and congressional districts with the release of U.S. Census data.
