HAMPDEN, Maine — Local voters returned three incumbents and added one new face to the Town Council and also elected three new school committee members Tuesday.
Mayor Janet Hughes, who was running unopposed in District 1, won re-election with 406 votes to 35 write-in votes. In District 2, incumbent Tom Brann edged challenger Mark Gray 304-285.
Jean Lawlis also won narrow re-election with 287 votes. Her challengers were Brian Duprey, with 249 votes, and Michelle Blosser, who got 59 votes despite pulling out of the race shortly after filing nomination papers.
District 4 saw the only incumbent lose as challenger and longtime resident Jeremy Williams easily won over Bill Shakespeare, 443-231.
In Hampden’s RSU 22 board race, which featured four new faces running for three seats on the 14-member board, five-year Hampden resident and mother Amy Faircloth was the top vote-getter with 1,528; Orrington native and married father Nick Winchester earned 1,276 votes; and married father of three Niles Parker got 1,232 to fill the three open seats. Michigan transplant Jenan Jondy fell just short with 1,170 votes.
Incumbent Dana Skinner ran unopposed for the only open seat on the Hampden Water District board of trustees and received 2,099 votes.
Hampden residents voted in favor of adding table games to Hollywood Slots, 1,579 to 914.
