CHARLESTON – Mary Louise Young, 88, passed away peacefully Nov. 6, 2011, at her home. After battling Parkinson’s disease and cancer, Mary went to be with the Lord. She was a brave soldier of Christ. Mary was born Oct. 1, 1923, in Rockland, daughter of Andrew and Claramae (Harvey) Young.

She graduated from Bridgton Academy in 1942 and from Colby College in 1946. Mary had a career teaching Latin and French in public schools. She was a member of Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church. In her later years, she spent many winters in Spring Hill, Fla., and was active in the church there. She devoted her time to volunteering for Meals for ME and helping others, and kept busy with her raspberry business. Mary was a power of example and inspiration to all her knew her. She was well loved and surrounded by all the Francis family in her last years, with whom she made her home. She was especially fond of baby Lorelai; and girls, Isabella and Grace, who loved to paint her nails.

She leaves behind a sister, Roberta Young of Dalton, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Young of Florida; two nephews, Maynard Young and his wife, Sue, and Scott Young and his wife, Debbie, all of New Hampshire; two great-nieces, Michelle and Stephanie Young; and many cousins. Mary was predeceased by her brother, Andrew Harvey Young; and her longtime friend and companion, Marilyn Farrar. She will be greatly missed, but not forgotten.

A memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church with the Rev. Chad Poland officiating. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at
